Kharlovka week 30 starting 24 July
It was another exciting week for a small group of ASR veterans. With the arrival of cool cloudy weather the fishing improved significantly during the week with water temps dropping to 9.9C
This is the tale of our good ASR veteran German friend Bernd (of 11 seasons!) - who hooked into a great salmon last week on the lower Kharlovka Rock pool that after dancing about on the surface managed to wrap the line around a big rock in the centre of the pool. While Bernd had temporarily lost control - the salmon continued to jump and spray water. Meanwhile his veteran guide Kola had leapt into a dingy paddling out to free the line which allowed the fish to race away again downstream. With low late summer water levels - Bernd (who is 78) was encouraged to board the dingy together with his guide. Following an Hour of battling and chasing - Bernd finally released this feisty 25 pounder. The whole event was witness by a new guide-in-training from the far eastern Russian region of Buryatia who celebrated the whole spectacle with a Shamanic dance along the riverbank - Oommm...
Sven landed back to back 26 and 27 pounders in the Kharlovka Home pool on the guides fly called Sasha’s secret weapon. Both fish were landed and released within 30 minutes. The second monster leapt out of the net and disappeared back into the water before another photo could be snapped..
Always a pleasure to see Lewis back in action on the ASR! Lewis is a veteran who has been returning for the last 12 seasons..
Jurgen who only fishes Sun Ray Shadows and hitched tubes on the surface - landed 11 salmon on the week! Jurgen has been returning to the ASR with his family and friends for the last 11 seasons.. Prost!
Every season normally later in July when the temperatures, water levels, the moon and other factors become just right - 1000’s of salmon attempt to leap meters into the air and swim through the Kharlovka falls on their way to the remote spawning zone upriver!
It was a memorable week for all with 86 salmon for 7 guests. ASR staff were delighted to see the veteran guests back on camp!
