Kharlovka fishing summary for week 26 starting 26 June:
The first month of the season has passed and its been wonderful to see our international guests starting to return to the ASR joining together again with our Russian guests!
The last week of June - first days of July saw mostly warm with bright sunny conditions that flipped over temporary mid week with some welcomed clouds and mild temps before the sun and warmth returned again - with conditions that challenged the team throughout. Water temps rose from 13 to 15.5C while river levels dropped from 45 to 26cm on the Home pool scale.
The estuary extends up to the Island pool on the lower Kharlovka river. A salmon came to the surface to inspect Christoph’s Pahtakorva tube. At first glance, it didn’t seem much however following several irresistible casts the fish surfaced again - took the tube and shot off upriver with power. In the end, Christoph won the battle with this 26 pound bar of silver!
Good to see our Austrian friend Gerald back as well who had also had a successful week with multiple entires to the fishing record book, including 22 and 23 pounders.
Two other personal bests were landed by anglers from Russia. Yurie caught a 15 lber and Vyacheslav caught a 9 lber which was impressive for their first Atlantic Salmon trip.
British guests Matt and Gerald, who have been waiting for the opportunity to come back to Khrlovka for several years, also enjoyed themselves on and off the water - with a nice result of 22 fish released on the week.
Another British team (John and Alister) who visited us for the first time (and we hope not the last) had also demonstrated an excellent result by catching 19 fish.
And of course, it is impossible not to mention the Rybalchenko family headed by Vladimir. Last week, Vladimir had many reasons for pride that included his son’s big fish of the week.
The Eastern Litza river has an insurmountable 12m falls pool located some 9km upriver from the Barents sea with 1000’s of large multi sea winter salmon that thrive in the pockets and pools below. Vladimir Jr. with a spectacular 38.3 pounder - new PB that was landed together with his veteran guide Sasha on a Snealda - photographs by Max! “That was the first time I ever saw the backing from a salmon running upstream.”
Young Alexander who is 9 and Svetlana were also successful with Alexander's biggest fish weighing in at 12 pounds.
Vladimir and the ASR team were delighted, despite all the difficulties this year, to see such Dear guests back on the Kharlovka camp!
