Fishing Report from Kharlovka - Week 26 (June 22 - 28) - 2024

Range of morning air temperatures: 3.6 to 16C

Water temperature dropped 1.3C down to 7.9C before rising slowly over the week up to 11.9C

Water levels rose up 20cm on the opening day from 60 - 80cm on the Home pool scale. Following this, water levels dropped 5cm slowly over the week down to 55cm on the Home pool scale.

Total salmon caught for the week: 52

Largest fish of the week: 30.9lbs. for Maxim from the Reindeer pool on the Litza river.

Guests arrived to extremely challenging late summer conditions that included torrential rain with wind gusts up to 90km/hr along with cool air temperature of 3.6C. Over the first weekend, the rivers rose 20cm up to a high summer level of 80cm on the Home pool scale.

As a result, the rivers turned off-colour, swelling over the banks and flowing along the trails. During the first half of the week many of the guests fished their way back to camp early.

Finally on Tuesday the conditions began to slowly improve with both the air and water temp rising over 10C and the rivers clearing and dropping down slowly. Some of the experienced guests found success using intermediate tips with large sun ray shadows.

As the temps continue to slowly rise, the fishing improved with more than half the salmon being landed on the final days of the week.

Congrats went out to Ilya who landed his first salmon ever of 10lbs on the Litza.

Other highlights included Maxim who landed the largest salmon of the week -  30.9lbs. from the Litza Reindeer pool.

Oleg with a stunning sea trout from the Litza snowbank pool.

Mikhail with a good salmon from the lower Litza.

This was a week of good fishing friends who came together in the evening to swap stories and play the guitar with songs every evening with spirits high until they turned out lights.

Summer has been late to arrive this season to the far northern tundra. The tundra has been cool and saturated. The birch buds are just starting to appear on the trees along the rivers. Reindeer herds have arrived with bears being spotted on the follow.

The ASR team is looking forward to receiving the next group to camp and hopefully to improving conditions for the coming weeks.
